Chief of Police

Chief Delvon Campbell began his career with the City of Decatur in 2002 after serving 2 years with the Wise County Sheriff’s Department. During his tenure with the Decatur Police Department, Chief Campbell has served in various roles, including uniform patrol, investigations, grant funding, policy management, staff supervision, and internal affairs.  He served as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. Chief Campbell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.  He is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), is a Master Peace Officer and has countless other accomplishments.  Campbell plays an integral role in many community outreach projects including Stop Texting and Recognize Safety, Citizen’s Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol, Santa Cops and Back the Blue Scholarship Fund. He also serves as adjunct professor for Texas State University teaching School-Based Law Enforcement Training classes, Active Threat Training and instructs students at Decatur High School in the Principles of Law course.

Delvon

The Decatur Police Department serves a growing community of over 6,000 citizens. The City of Decatur is located in the center of Wise County, being the county seat. Major transportation routes within the area are US 81, US 380 and FM 51. Decatur is located in between Ft Worth and Wichita Falls, Texas and within 60 miles of the Dallas-Ft Worth International Airport. 
 
The Decatur Police Department was the 10th agency in Texas to be recognized by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program. Being recognized means that the agency meets or exceeds all the identified best practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices cover aspects of law enforcement operations such as use of force, protection, protection of citizen rights, pursuits, property and evidence, management, patrol operations and investigative operations.
